Reps okay President Tinubu’s N500bn palliative request.

The House of Representatives has passed a Bill for an Act to Authorize the issuance of the sum of five hundred billion, Naira, only from the 2022 Supplementary Appropriations of eight hundred and nineteen billion, five hundred and thirty six million, nine hundred and thirty–seven thousand, eight hundred and fifteen naira, only for the provisions of palliatives to Nigerians to cushion the effect of fuel subsidy removal.

Recall that President Bola Tinubu in a letter addressed to both chambers of the National Assembly on Wednesday requested for the approval of the Bill and the House during its plenary agreed that it be considered on the following day.

The passage of the Bill came following its consideration at plenary on Thursday after the House majority leader, Julius Ihonvbare led the debate.

Members while speaking in support of the debate however questioned the nature of the N500 billion loan for palliative and how it is going to help Nigerians interns of improve health care and other important sector. They therefore stressed the need for a thorough oversight on how the approved amount will be adequately utilised.

To this end, the House adopted the Bill after a voice vote called by Speaker Tajudeen Abbas went in favour of the House majority.

Following its adoption, Speaker Abbas referred it to the Committee of the Supply where it was considered and passed
