Ahead of the 2023 General Election, the Nigerian Immigration Service(NIS) has established Rapid Response Squad(RRS) and Immigration Women Armed Squad in preparation for contingency of lawlessness during election.
The Comptroller General of Immigration Service Isah Idris at a meeting with all State Comptrollers on Wednesday in Abuja said that efforts are in top gear to mobilize it’s personnel to secure all boarder points before, during and after election
Idris revealed that NIS has placed personnel on vigilance to ensure only eligible citizens of the Federal Republic of Nigeria participate in the electoral process, adding the confiscated voter cards and national Identification cards in the hands of arrested foreigners have since been repatriated.
The CGIS stressed that NIS is on high alert to identify, arrest and prevent foreigners from participating in the election and any possible obstruction of peaceful conduct of the election process
He however, said the Service is adequately prepared to deal with any person found contravening electoral law, warning that acts of compromise will be treated as sabotage against the nation”s security.
