The Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Christopher Musa has restated that the fight against insecurity demands varying attention and concerted efforts of it’s citizens seeking to possess and apply non-kinetic means to solve the security challenges bedeviling the nation.

General Musa who stated this while addressing the Defence Correspondents Association of Nigeria (DECAN) at a one-day seminar in Abuja on Tuesday, explained that security threats have evolved globally, hence the urgent need to adopt workable and practical ways to deal with it squarely.

While Speaking on the theme, “Civil-Military Relations: Non-kinetic Efforts of the Nigerian Military in Security Management, Challenges and Prospects,” the CDS charged citizens to contribute positively to nation building.

The CDS further urged all Nigerians to display high level of patriotism, take ownership of the situation and contribute meaningfully to defeating the multifaceted threats in the country.

“I’m highly aware of the multidimensional challenges that confront our nation in the domain of security. Nigeria as a diverse and complex nation faces a mirage of security threats that demand our varying attention and concerted efforts to address.

“It will therefore warrant a whole lot of society approach to address several critical areas including civil capacity, interagency education, training and exercises, effective planning, coordination and collaborations.

“Others will include cross organizational understanding of capabilities and interagency framework that establishes proper roles and responsibilities, unified assessment leading to a shared understanding of the operational environment, adequate statutory authorities and funding mechanism as well as sufficient information sharing,” the CDS said.

Also speaking, the Acting Director, Defence Information, Brig – Gen. Tukur Gusau in his remarks charged Defence Correspondents to display ethical skills, employ high level of professionalism and patriotism in their reportage.

On his part, the Director Defence Media Operations, Maj. Gen. Edward Buba, stated that the gathering will further establish a veritable working relationship with the media, adding that the military is ready to sustain cordial relation with the media in the interest of the nation.
