South Africa has confirmed a diphtheria outbreak at it’s Pollsmoor Maximum Prison, following the death of a nineteen-year-old inmate.
The Health Minister, Doctor Joe Phaahla said the male inmate, who contacted the disease last month, died recently.
Phaahla noted that eight more inmates, aged eighteen to twenty-three are in isolation, after testing positive for the disease.
He said a vaccination drive in the affected section of the prison is under way
