The Gubernatorial Election tribunal sitting in Lagos, has upheld the victory of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and his Deputy, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat, in the March 18th gubernatorial election.
The three member tribunal led by Justice Arum Ashom, struck out the petition of the Labour Party Governorship candidate, Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour.
The Applicant had sought the court to nullify the election of Governor Sanwo-Olu and his Deputy, on the ground of dual citizenship of the Deputy Governor.
The Tribunal declared that since Dr. Obafemi Hamzat is a Nigerian by birth, his becoming an American citizen did not extinguish his citizenship.
Reacting to the judgment, the Deputy Governor commended the judiciary for the thorough job.
