Reps screen Service Chiefs, call for synergy among Security Agencies to tackle insecurity

The House of Representatives has urged the Nigerian military to effectively collaborate with sister security agencies to ensure that all security threats are completely neutralised, and Nigerians can live peacefully.

Chairman, House ad-hoc committee on screening of service chief nominees, Hon. Babajimi Benson made the call in Abuja during the screening process.

Hon. Benson while acknowledging the achievement displayed by the military in the last one year, charged them to also take the war which has been on land, air and sea to cyberspace stressing that since the world is dynamic, there is need for a full fledged Defence Space Force to adequately handle potential threats from the cyber space and provide intelligence support to other services.

The House pledged it will continue to support the army in ensuring a peaceful nation through its legislative activities, and will also embark on rigorous oversight exercises, beginning from this screening, to ensure that the Armed Forces of Nigeria adhere strictly to the provisions of all Appropriation Acts.
On their various parts, the Chief of Defense Staff,Maj. Gen.Christopher Musa vowed that under his watch, the Armed Forces will protect the territorial integrity of the country and work in synergy.

The Chief of Army Staff, Maj Gen Taoreed Lagbaja said he will work in sync with other security chiefs to ensure that the country is secured.

He also said he is mindful of the nation’s security challenges and will work to transform the army into a well-trained, proactive force.

Others also screened by the House include, Chief of Naval Staff, Rear Admiral Emmanuel Ogalla and Chief of Air Staff, Air Vice Marshall Hassan Abubakar.

Recall that following the appointment of the Service chiefs by President Bola Tinubu, the House, last week, constituted an ad-hoc committee chaired by Hon. Babajimi Benson to carry out a screening on the nominees.
