CANOE SINK DROWNS SEVEN SCHOOLGIRLS IN GUINEA

At least seven young schoolgirls who were going to take college entrance exams on Monday have drowned, after their canoe capsized on the Niger River, near the town of Kouroussa in Upper Guinea.

Guinea’s Minister of Pre-university Education and Literacy, Guillaume Hawing, who was in the region for the launch of the first tests of the examination, confirmed the sad news.

The incident happened as the overloaded canoe capsized under the weight of passengers and goods.
