Commonwealth Observer Group Visits INEC Ahead of Saturday”s Election

Speaking ahead of Saturday “s election, the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission INEC, Mahmood Yakubu has reassured that the choice of electing leaders in the upcoming general election is in the hands of Nigerian voters.

Yakubu who stated this when he received a delegation of the Commonwealth Observer Group to Nigeria, led by the former President of South Africa, Thabo Mbeki, said INEC is committed to credible and verifiable elections in the country.

In his remarks, Mbeki, Chairman of the Group called on the nation’s political parties, candidates, and their supporters to ensure peaceful, fair and credible election come Saturday, 25th February 2023.

The former President of South Africa, while expressing confidence in a successful election in Nigeria, said his team as observers to the general election is of essence to INEC as they would make recommendations on their observance of 2023 general election.

The group of observers are in the country to assess INEC’s preparedness towards the general election and observe the process of the upcoming poll.
