NCPD partners Civil Defence Corps to fight discrimination against persons with disabilities

The National Commission for Persons with Disabilities has urged the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps to help fight against discrimination of persons with disabilities.

The Executive Secretary, National Commission for Persons with Disabilities Mr James Lalu while speaking at the launch of the NSCDC Disability Duty Desks on Thursday in Abuja lamented that disability community have been facing a lot of discrimination within their family and community.

Lalu stated that there are many of intelligent persons with disabilities who need help to achieve their dreams.

He expressed hope that the collaboration with NSCDC will transform into access to justice for persons with disabilities in Nigeria.

Also speaking, the Commandant General of the NSCDC Ahmed Audi who was represented by the Deputy Commanding General in charge of Administration NSCDC Zakari Ibrahim said the induction training was intended to prepare the desk officers to fully take up their responsibilities at the command level.

Ibrahim stressed that the responsibility of the desk officers was to ensure adequate protection of the right and privilege of citizens with any form of disabilities.

He noted that the provision of this act is a deliberate attempt to fully integrate persons with disabilities into the society so as to cater for their education, health care, social economic and civil needs.

The National Program Manager, Rule of Law and Anti – Corruption Danladi Plang while reading the Goodwill message advised the desk officers who were selected to do a very good job because they are the face of the NSCDC before persons with disabilities.
