Energy Transition: Oil and Gas Experts Task on Technological Development to Enhance Sector

Experts in the Oil and Gas sector have emphasized the need take up technology, skills acquisition and business development in order to explore the advantage of energy transition.

Speaking at the maiden edition of the Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria PENGASSAN Energy and labour submit 2022, tagged energy transition and it’s effect on work force in the Nigerian oil and gas sector on in Abuja, the National President of the Association, Festus Osifo stated that the call for action on energy transition has made several oil and gas companies to migrate to energy companies so as to reflect the new realities.

This action, Osifo said has made such oil and gas companies to move their investments to renewable energy related projects.

Osifo said the summit will incorporate expert discussions on crude oil theft and contract staffing in the oil and gas industry as well as ways women can optimally impact the oil and gas industry to the benefit of all.

Also speaking at the event, the Group General Manager, National Petroleum Investment Management Service who spoke as the lead panelist, Dr Bala Wunti stressed on the need for PENGASSAN’s workforce to remain relevant for the challenged future, in the light of energy transition.

Wunti charged the association to strive to acquire more leadership skills, media and ICT literacy as well business development to conform with international standards.

He noted that Nigeria had already planned to archive energy sufficiency by 2026 and attain net – zero emission by 2060.

For her part, Mrs Evi Ifekwe the Executive General Manager Human Resources, Total Energies, said about 78million jobs would be created in view of energy transition.

The Executive Secretary, Petroleum Technology Development Fund, Dr Bello Gusau who was represented by the General Manager, Strategy Planning and Documentation of the Fund, Jide Adebulehin disclosed that the Fund was making effort to include more training and courses in curriculum of tertiary institutions in line with energy transition.

The 2022 PENGASSAN Energy and Labour Summit with theme “Energy Transition and it’s Effect on Workforce in the Nigerian Oil and Gas Sector, seeks to charge oil and gas professionals to up their game towards the advancement of energy transition.
