FG Confers Ctizenship on 286 Britons, Lebanese, Others

Federal Government has announced the conferment of citizenship on two hundred and eighty-six foreign nationals from forty-nine countries.

The Minister of interior Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola announced this on Thursday at the 2022 conferment ceremony of Nigerian citizenship in Abuja.

The minister while applauding the new citizens for taking the bold step, noted that the conferment was given through the process of naturalization and registration.

The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Interior, Shauib Bengore, encouraged the beneficiaries to continue to contribute positively to the growth and development of Nigeria.

Following approval by the Federal Executive Council (FEC) at the Presidential Villa, Eighty-six Lebanese, 14 Britons, and four Americans were among the 286 foreign nationals conferred with the status of Nigerian citizenship by President Muhammadu Buhari.

Addressing the new citizens , President Buhari directed the Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS) to immediately issue the new Nigerians with certificates, to enable them enjoy the status wherever they reside in the country.
