The State Government is set to train one hundred and fifty women and youths in the art of bee keeping and honey production, packaging and marketing.
Commissioner for Agriculture, Abisola Olusanya, who stated this at this year’s World Bee Day, Theme: “Bee Engaged: Build Back Better For Bees”, said the trainees would be empowered with needed implements to enable them start on an easy note.
While stressing that the initiative would consolidate Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s T.H.E.M.E.S. Agenda to empower women and youths for economic prosperity, Olusanya said the aim was to acknowledge the role of bees and other pollinators in the ecosystem.
The Commissioner, noted that the training would control and reduce importation, improve the quality of honey being produced locally, while ensuring that adulterated honey was flushed out in Lagos and Nigeria at large.
