Fire Incident: INEC Office In Zamfara State Gutted By Fire

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) says it’s office in Kauran Namoda Local Government Area of Zamfara State has been gutted by fire.

In a statement signed by National Commissioner and Chairman,
Information and Voter Education Committee, Festus Okoye the Resident Electoral Commissioner for Zamfara State, Professor Sa’idu Ahmed, reported the incident which he stated occurred around 11.00pm on Monday 2nd May 2022.

According to Okoye, no casualties were reported while critical materials such Permanent Voters’ Cards (PVCs) and registration machines for the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise stored in fireproof cabinets were saved.

He however noted that the building was extensively damaged, adding that a number of fixed and movable office furniture were destroyed in spite of the efforts of the Zamfara State Fire Service and good Samaritans to contain the inferno.

The commission also said the attention of the Nigeria Police has been drawn to the incident and has commenced investigation in collaboration with the Fire service, to ascertain the cause of the fire and advise the Commission for further action.
