The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has published
final list of candidates for the forthcoming Ekiti State Governorship election following the close of nominations by political parties.
This move according to a statement made available to the media and signed by the National Commissioner and Chairman, Information and Voter Education Committee, Festus Okoye on Monday, is in compliance with the Electoral Act 2022.
The Commission however urged any party that observes that the name of its candidate is missing from the list to notify the Commission in writing, duly signed by its National Chairman and Secretary, and accompanied with an affidavit not later than 90 days to the election.
Okoye further drew the attention of parties to Section 32(3) of the Electoral Act 2022, which states that failure to notify the Commission “shall not be ground to invalidate the election”.
He also revealed that the final list has been published in INEC’s State and Local Government offices in Ekiti State, as well as on the commission’s website and social media platforms for public information as required by law.
