NASS Designs Strategies to Support Flood Victims

Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas says the National Assembly has designed strategies that will be implemented by the federal government in the next few days, to bring succour to Maiduguri flood victims.

The Speaker disclosed this at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, while speaking to State House corespondents after his commiseration visit to Vice President Shettima, over the recent flood that ravaged some.communities in Maiduguri.

Abbas who assured that the National Assembly will provide support for those affected by the flood, said the NASS has already taken measures to also address the needs of other states affected by natural disasters.

“I am here today to commiserate with his Excellency, the Vice President, over the devastating flooding incidents in Maidiguri. that is the purpose of my visit here, and I used that opportunity to discuss extensively on the problems and the situation of the people, particularly those affected in Maiduguri.

“We have also designed some strategies and solutions by both the NASS and the Presidency will implement in the next few days to bring succour to the victims of the flood in Maiduguri.

He expressed confdence that the Borno State government will judiciously utilize the intervention fund of 3 billion naira earmarked by the federal government to support the state.

“With the governor, that is known for transparency. the governor of Borno, I am absolutely sure that whatever will be provided for them from the Presidency will be judiciously distributed, so I have no fear about that.

Speaking of other states facing the same challenge of flood, Abbas said ‘like my own state, Kaduna, it has similar flood incidents, some few weeks ago and we have taken measures to also address that by giving palliatives and we have also reached out to NEMA, and also advised to also assist the victims there.

“We are making efforts with the Governor of Niger state to see what we can do by the NASS to help, and also, all the other states that are affected we will do what we can to help,” he said.
