INEC Releases Analysis of New Voters For Edo, Ondo States

With the conclusion of the cleaning process of data using the Automated Biometric Identification System (ABIS), the Independent National Electoral Commission INEC says it has recorded 119,206 new voters in Edo State and 58,708 for Ondo State, ahead of the forthcoming governorship elections in both states.

The statistics of new voters was generated from the Continuous Voter Registration(CVR) exercise carried out from 27th May to 9th June, 2024.

Out of the 119, 206 new voters in Edo State, the Commission in a statemet signed by its National Commissioner and Chairman, Information and Voter Education Committee, Sam Olumekun indicated that 61,684 were Men, representing 51.75 per cent, 57,522, representing 48.25 per cent were women, while 606 were persons with disabilities.

For Ondo State, 26,447 were male, representing 45.05 per cent, 32,261 female, representing 54.95 per cent and 324 persons with disabilities representing 0.55 per cent, recorded.

These figures, according to the Commission, do not include the 8,847 applications for transfer into Edo State and the 3,132 into Ondo State from other states of the Federation. Similarly, they do not also include applications for transfer within the two States because they are already captured on the register of voters.

Olumekun noted that the figures of the new voters and inter-State transfers are being integrated into the existing register and in the next few days, the Commission will release the comprehensive and final register of voters to be used for the 2024 Governorship elections for each of the two States.

Meanwhile, the analysis of new voters for Edo and Ondo States, indicating their distribution by Local Government Areas, gender, age, occupation and disability has been uploaded to INEC website and social media platforms for public information.
