The National Economic Council (NEC) is considering the establishment of state police as a result of the rising insecurity challenge confronting the country.
Bayo Lawal, the Deputy Governor of Oyo State, disclosed this to State House Correspondents after the NEC meeting, held at the Presidential Villa, in Abuja.
The Council. chaired by Vice President Kashim Shettima, directed that all state governments submit their proposals regarding the creation of state police for further deliberation.
Lawal noted that only four states, which are Adamawa, Kebbi, Kwara, and Sokot and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) are yet to make their submissions.
The council therefore mandated that the remaining states submit their positions by Monday, September 9, 2024, or face being bound by the resolutions agreed upon by the council.
“Today all the states were supposed to submit for consideration of the neck. Incidentally , 4 states couldn’t submit, and for that purpose, NEC decided that those states must make their submissions on or before Monday next week, otherwise, whatever decision next date on the establishment of State Police will be binding on those states that refuse to submit, to make submissions. So that is the resolution as of today’s net meeting, “he said.
