Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has emphasised the need for the three arms of government to work together to promote democracy.
Sanwo-Olu gave the indication while speaking to State House correspondents after the swearing-in ceremony of the new Acting Chief Justice of Nigeria(CJN), Kudirat Kekere-Ekun, at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

The Lagos State Governor urged the new CJN to consolidate on the various reforms her predecessor started in order to enhance the nation’s judiciary.

“So its about a time that we all need to continue to ensure that our democracy understands and appreciates the clear separation of powers and for everyone, understanding and knowing fully well that, yes, they are independent, but we all need each other at various verticals to ensure that it all fits in appropriately.

“Its really for the judiciary, which the former CJN had started the reforms to continue and for her, to show that leadership that we know her too well for and ensuring that they are the last bus stop. Whatever they say is the final, no other person can. So, for we pray to God to enable her to do that, “he said..

Sanwo-Olu commended the President for the strategic relevance he accorded the judiciary by halting his trip to swear in the new CJN within twenty-four hours of retirement of the outgone CJN Kayode Ariwoola

“Yesterday we had a former CJN stepped down, having attained the statutory age and within twenty-four hours, we’ve seen the beauty of our democracy, Mr. President himself had to stop his own trip to ensure that governance and democracy do not stop. There is no vacuum.

“He has shown the importance and the strategic relevance of the judiciary to ensure that we have a new Chief Justice of the Federation, albeit in an acting capacity, within 24 hours, so that nothing is left to chance at all and we’re indeed excited that he’s taking it as a very serious constitutional responsibility to come in and conduct the swearing in ceremony this morning”, he said..

He described the second female Chief Justice of the Federation as an outstanding jurist and one of the few people with a progressive growth in the profession.
