Independent National Electoral Commission, has called on the media to help mobilize prospective registrants for the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) in Edo and Ondo States.

This is to create more awareness on about the exercise as part of preparations for the forthcoming governorship elections in the two states.

Speaking at the quarterly consultative meeting with media executives, in Abuja, INEC Chairman, Professor Yakubu the Commission will also make available the uncollected PVCs for collection during the CVR.

He added that the list of uncollected PVCs will be published at its offices in Edo and Ondo States and simultaneously uploaded to the commission’s website.

The INEC Chairman urged media organizations to submit applications for accreditation to cover the election in earnest along with the required documentation for individual journalists and support staff.

“The Commission therefore appeals to political parties and other stakeholders to join us in mobilising prospective registrants for the exercise, particularly on the need to register early and not wait until the deadline approaches when the registration centres are inundated by eleventh hour registrants.

“In addition to the registration of voters, the Commission will also make available the uncollected Permanent Voters’ Cards (PVCs) for collection during the CVR. In the coming days, the list of uncollected PVCs will be published in our offices in the two States and simultaneously uploaded to our website. Again, we encourage those who have not collected their PVCs in the two States to seize the opportunity to do so”, he said.
